Court Security

The Yuba County Courthouse and Superior Court Annex are secure facilities.  As such, all persons entering the building will be searched, and all items brought in will be scanned using x-ray equipment.

Items Not Allowed

Weapons or any object that could be used as a weapon will not be allowed into the courthouse. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Box Cutters
  • Chains
  • Cuff Keys
  • Guns
  • Knitting Needles
  • Knives
  • Mace
  • Nail Files
  • Pepper Spray
  • Scissors
  • Tools
  • Tweezers

If you are required to bring a weapon to the courthouse as an exhibit in a court case, you must contact the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department in advance of the hearing for further instructions.  They can be reached at (530) 749-7777.  DO NOT BRING THE WEAPON TO THE COURTHOUSE WITHOUT FIRST CONTACTING THE SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT.

Courtroom Dress Policy

Shorts and tank-tops may not be worn in the courtroom.  Local Rules of Court 2.9 states:

All persons who appear in any courtroom shall dress appropriately.  The bailiff on duty, under the supervision of the judges, shall have the authority to enforce this rule and prevent the public or any other person with inappropriate attire from entering the courtroom.  Hats shall not be permitted unless worn for religious purposes.  Shoes shall be worn.  Shorts shall not be worn.  Glasses with darkened lenses shall not be permitted except when prescribed or worn for medical reasons.

Prohibition of Communicating With Prisoners

California Penal Code § 4570 makes it a crime to communicate with persons who are in the Sheriff’s custody (for court).  Failure to comply with this requirement may result in criminal charges being filed
